GEORES 2017 – Preliminary Young Researcher Workshop

The challenge of the workshop (19-21/05) was to create a contact point and a cross-pollination between the practice of architectural surveying and that of restoration. The 21 participants, between PhD students, postdoctoral fellows and young researchers coming from different sectors and countries, had the opportunity of interchanging, sharing ideas and experiences, working together and practicing the acquired knowledge. This attempt of recreating the same interaction that should exist between the restoration and geomatics disciplines, two consecutive steps in the process of safeguarding and enhancement of Cultural Heritage, tried to supply suitable tools for a multidisciplinary education and for a collaborative approach between the young professionals.

Theoretical lessons held by 4 tutors (A. Adami, F. Fassi, R. Pierdicca e A. Conti) and 4 guest professors (M. D’Ambrosio, G. Cruciani Fabozzi, A. Gambuti e M. Quintero Santana) about photogrammetry, laser scanner and virtual systems, were supported also by instrumental practical demonstrations at the “Palazzina della Livia”, an historic building in Florence, followed by the elaboration of the data previously acquired in order to obtain useful information from the 3D models.

On the first day of the conference, a special session was reserved for the presentation of the results in order to highlight the most important raised issues.
